random moments in time
I love pictures, especially pictures of friends and family. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to flip through albums, pausing to recall days or events that are especially meaningful to me - reflecting on the blessings that I have been given. Even as I collect thousands of digital pictures, I continue to keep prints. Some pictures, like from a roadtrip or get-together, naturally flow together in an album. But, there are also those pictures that hold so many memories - that just don't fit anywhere, or perhaps are too embarrassing/hilarious to be shared in a general album. So, a couple of years ago - I started to put together a collection of pictures that I consider "random moments in time." And by time, I mean - my life from about ehhh 1996.
At first the collection remained somewhat stagnant ... it was pretty much pictures from home that I didn't want to disturb. I guess it started as a tribute to my Bangalore buddies. I've found more recently that I have been able to remove some pictures of Bangalore, and include pictures from my life here. At some point, I want this collection to be a healthy mix of both sides of Z - the side that is eager to go back to where she came from, to relive the days of basketball and "time-pass" - and the side that has embraced her adopted home here, and all the madness that comes with it.
Flipping through it now, having seen the pictures that it began with - and the new ones that it now includes, the album really is a collection of moments in time. So far, I can tell you exactly where each picture was taken and the general time frame/context. It reminds me not only of the blessings that I have in my life, but also of how far I've come from five years ago, and to go further back, how completely my life has changed from ten years ago. Although I'm usually resistent to change, I think I'm learning how to embrace it. The "random moments in time" collection helps me accept change by showing me how good it has been. And that definitely requires an emphatic Alhamdullilah.
