An Inconvenient Truth
I've seen the trailer twice - and both times, it has scared the living daylights out of me. This is actually happening. Is it hype? I don't think so - I think this is the real deal.
We need to forget all the piddly issues that are being fought over every day, and focus on this. It doesn't matter what you believe, or how you align yourself religiously, socially or politically - it doesn't matter where you come from - the U.S., India, the Middle East, China - we can all base our common humanity on the fact that we have been blessed with this earth. The earth that has been the source of our sustenance and our protection from the harsh elements in the universe. If nothing else, we can all join together - forget our petty differences, humble ourselves and realize that there is something more important than ourselves - and that is the very existence of our world.
As I sit here with my laptop on my knees - draining precious energy from the scarce resources that we have (in the grand scheme), and wonder if there is anything that we can do. Is it too little too late? Is it ever too late to try?
Regardless of whether your status is "treehugger and green peace activist" or staunch believer that ___ companies (fill in oil, timber/logging, or the money hungry industry of your choice) are trustworthy and well-intentioned ... or if you're like me - stuck in between, just trying to figure out where you stand - whether there is a middle ground ... watch this film. And tell your friends.
The Inconvenient Truth opens May 24 - pledge to see it opening weekend.
